The 750,000 b/d DAPL pipeline, operated by Energy Transfer, and co-owned by Enbridge, MPLX and P66, forms the backbone of a pipeline system able to deliver Bakken crude throughout the US midcontinent and to the US Gulf coast at Nederland, TX. In the summer of 2022, Illinois regulators approved a request to expand DAPL capacity to 1mn b/d.
Alongside DAPL, a 355,000 b/d Enbridge pipeline takes Bakken barrels eastward to Clearbrook, MN, where they can be delivered to local refiners or taken further down the Enbridge system toward northeastern Padd II, into eastern Canada or toward Cushing.
Other regional pipelines -- including the Bridger, Belle Fourche, and Butte – are able to get more than 200,000 b/d of Bakken crude to Guernsey, WY and on to Cushing. And within North Dakota, there are several gathering systems, (shown in second item below).
